Marriage, family, and individual therapy
Couples
My interactive, results-driven approach to couple's and marriage counseling means you'll get to the heart of your relationship issues fast, so that you and your partner can start creating new, healthier patterns as soon as possible.
Kids & Teens
In addition to my psychotherapy degrees, I holds degrees in early childhood education and spent years working with children and their families. I incorporate that expertise into my work with children, teens, and young adults.
Individuals
In individual therapy, I use an interactive approach -- together with extensive background in personal coaching and career counseling -- to help clients move through whatever is holding them back.
Meet Dr. Julie
For over 40 years, I have been serving the Bay Area and -- more recently, my new chosen home in North Idaho -- as a psychotherapist, radio talk-show host, college instructor, career and workplace consultant, aging counselor, and child development expert.

Being able to recognize the patterns, pain, and issues that prevent people from living healthy lives is an essential skill for any therapist. In my twelve years of academic training and forty years of clinical work, I have fine-tuned this skill and gained a wealth of experience that produces real, lasting, and positive changes in the lives of my clients.

I believe that empathy, trust, and honesty are the cornerstones of the therapeutic process. I further believe that everyone has the capacity for change and self-growth.
However, healing and growth can occur only when we feel safe enough to explore the issues that trouble us. Therefore, my goal is to create a supportive environment where clients can explore new ways to resolve their struggles so that they can reach their full potential as professionals, parents, lovers, and individuals.

You and I will work actively together towards this goal. By balancing my capacity for analysis with a compassionate heart, I will lend you my strength so that you will have the courage to find you own.
3 ways to connect
Video Therapy
Therapy sessions can be completed over secure video. You just need a computer with decent Internet connectivity or a smart phone.
Phone Therapy
Nearly 1/3 of my clients choose this method. This is perfect for busy individuals who travel frequently.
In-Office Visit
Since relocating to North Idaho in 2019, I now see clients in-person at my Sandpoint office. Sorry, I no longer maintain offices in California, but still welcome clients for phone and video therapy.

A No-Couch Approach to Counseling
Open, honest, engaging. I'm fully aware that mine is not your typical "lie on the couch and talk to the ceiling" practice. I believe in blending the best of psychotherapy with personal coaching techniques. I will also ask you probing questions -- questions that might even make you a bit uncomfortable. But unlike so many therapists, I believe that by engaging you in robust, reciprocal dialog, we can arrive at a plan for moving through whatever is troubling you. I'll encourage you to arrivat at your own conclusions, but will actively help you get there. My goal is simple: identify the issue, understand it without belaboring it, and find ways to help you cope and move on.
